How to play
- Pick a test: Reaction test, Aim drill, Showdown for 2 players or Showdown vs CPU.
- Reaction test: wait while the screen says Wait for GO. When GO and the lightning bolt appear, press as fast as you can. Five valid tries give your average.
- Pressing before GO, or less than a tenth of a second after it, is a false start: the try starts again and is counted on your results screen.
- Aim drill: hit 20 targets in a row as fast as you can. A shot that misses adds 0.25 seconds to your time. With a keyboard, press the letter shown under the target.
- Showdown: both players wait on their half of the screen. The first press after GO wins the point; a false start gives the point to the other player. First to 4 points wins the best of 7.
- Showdown vs CPU: beat the computer to the press. Win a match and it moves up a level; lose twice in a row and it eases off.
- Tip: rest a finger on the key or the screen and look at the middle of the screen, not at the edges. Guessing the moment only earns false starts, because the wait is random every time.
- Your best average, your best aim time and your last ten results stay on this device. Device and display latency add a few milliseconds, so compare results from the same device.
- Aim drill tip: move straight to the next target and click once. Spraying clicks around a target costs more time in misses than it saves.
- Showdown tip: sit side by side and keep your hands off the other half of the screen. On a phone in portrait, Player 2 sits across the table and reads their half upside down.
- Warm up with a few rounds before you chase a personal best: most people get faster over the first handful of tries, and a tired or distracted day shows up in the numbers.

About Reflex Lab
Play Reflex Lab online for free: a reaction time test in milliseconds, a 20-target aim drill and a best-of-7 first-to-press duel for 2 players.
Reflex Lab is a set of three quick reflex tests. The reaction time test waits a random moment before the screen turns into GO with a lightning bolt; press as fast as you can and your time is shown in milliseconds. Five tries make your average, a press before GO is a false start that restarts the try, and your personal best and your last ten averages are kept on this device so you can see whether you are getting faster. The aim drill puts 20 targets on the screen one after another: hit them all as fast as you can, and every miss adds a quarter of a second. The showdown is a first-to-press duel for two players on one screen, best of seven: each player gets half of the screen or one key, whoever presses first after GO wins the point, and a false start hands the point to the rival. Play the showdown against the CPU on your own: it starts slow and gets quicker each time you beat it. Reflex Lab only compares you with your own results, never with other people, and the timing is measured from the moment GO reaches the screen. Your monitor, browser and mouse or touch screen still add a few milliseconds, so a phone and a gaming mouse will not give the same numbers: compare like with like.
Reflex Lab runs right in your browser on desktop, tablet and phone. There is nothing to download or install, and you don't need an account: press play and start.
